12mm Sd.Kfz. 234/2 Puma VG12021

This set from Victrix features six superbly detailed 12mm (1:144 scale) Sd.Kfz. 234/2 Puma armoured cars, along with a decal sheet for customisation. A striking addition to any WWII German miniature force, these fast and agile reconnaissance vehicles are crisply moulded and packed with accurate details.

The Sd.Kfz. 234/2 ‘Puma’ was part of a family of eight-wheeled armoured cars developed by Germany during the later stages of World War II. Combining speed, mobility, and firepower, the Puma was fitted with a 50mm KwK 39/1 main gun and a coaxial MG 42 machine gun, making it capable of handling both scouting roles and light anti-tank duties. Its advanced suspension system and powerful engine gave it a top speed of up to 90 kph and an impressive range of 1000km on roads.

Only a limited number of Pumas were produced and they were typically allocated to elite reconnaissance units within Panzer divisions on the Eastern Front and in Normandy. Their excellent performance earned them respect from both sides, and they were often employed in aggressive forward screening actions and fast-response roles.

History:

The Sd.Kfz. 234 series was Germany’s final evolution of heavy armoured cars, designed for long-range reconnaissance with increased firepower and all-terrain mobility. The 234/2 variant, known as the Puma, featured a fully enclosed turret armed with a 50mm L/60 gun, giving it the ability to engage light vehicles and fortified positions. With four-wheel steering and a powerful engine, it could reach impressive speeds even over rough terrain. Pumas served in Russia and France, notably participating in the Normandy campaign. Their combination of firepower, protection, and speed made them one of the most advanced armoured cars of the war, though their limited numbers meant they never had a widespread impact. Nevertheless, they left a lasting legacy in reconnaissance vehicle design.
