Das Werk 1/72 Scale Submarine Model Kit

Das Werk U Boat SM U 9 (1/72) Item DW72001

Das Werks 1/72 scale SM U 9 is a masterful injection-moulded plastic representation of the World War I Kaiserliche Marine submarine. Internally nearly 850 mm long when built, this kit offers painstakingly accurate riveted hull detail, optional open or closed torpedo hatches, and a comprehensive decal sheet. Ideal for large-scale display or diorama work, it captures the historic U 9 that famously sank three British cruisers in a single mission on 22 September 1914.

  • 1/72 scale injection-moulded plastic kit (Item DW72001)
  • Detailed riveted hull with robust build engineering
  • Optional open or closed forward and aft torpedo hatches
  • Includes deck fittings: periscopes, hatches, conning tower parts
  • Clear parts for navigation lights and lens housings
  • Comprehensive decal options for U 9s historic patrols

Note: Requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints, and tools are not included.

Historical Background:

Commissioned in 1910, SM U 9 made naval history on 22 September 1914 by torpedoing HMS Aboukir, Hogue, and Cressydemonstrating the devastating potential of submarine warfare. Later, U 9 continued patrols in the Flanders coast area before being withdrawn for training purposes in 1915. The submarine was scrapped in 1919, but its 1914 sortie remains one of the most daring and effective submarine attacks of the First World War.
