12mm Sherman Firefly VG12006
This Victrix set includes six finely detailed 12mm (1:144 scale) Sherman Firefly tanks, along with a decal sheet featuring Allied stars and British divisional markings. The Firefly was one of the most effective Allied tank destroyers of World War II, created to address the growing threat of German heavy armour on the Western Front.
Developed by the British as a modification of the American M4 Sherman, the Firefly mounted the powerful 17-pounder anti-tank gun—the most effective Allied tank gun of the war. Capable of destroying German Panthers and Tigers at typical engagement ranges, the Firefly brought much-needed firepower to British armoured formations. However, its lack of a dedicated high-explosive round limited its effectiveness against soft targets and infantry positions.
The Firefly served with British and Commonwealth forces during the Normandy campaign and throughout Northwest Europe. It was often deployed within regular Sherman units, with typically one Firefly per troop providing long-range anti-tank capability. Recognised by its extended barrel and modified turret, it became a feared presence on the battlefield by German tank crews.
- 6 x 12mm Sherman Firefly Tanks
- Decal sheet included (Allied stars and British divisional markings)
Note: This set requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.
History:
The Sherman Firefly was Britain’s answer to the heavy German tanks dominating the battlefield in 1944. By mounting the 17-pounder gun—originally an anti-tank weapon—in a reconfigured Sherman turret, British engineers created a tank that could penetrate the armour of Tigers and Panthers from standard combat ranges. Deployed in time for D-Day, Fireflies played a vital role in giving British and Commonwealth forces parity in tank engagements. Though its armour and mobility were unchanged from the standard Sherman, the firepower advantage made it a key asset in Allied armoured formations. It continued to serve until the end of the war and remains one of the most iconic British tank conversions of the conflict.
