History:

Austrian hussars were among the most flamboyant and active light cavalry units of the Napoleonic Wars, serving from 1805 through to the end of the conflict in 1815. Known for their colourful uniforms featuring dolmans and pelisses covered in intricate braiding, along with shakos or mirliton caps, hussars were deployed for reconnaissance, raiding, and harassing enemy formations. The Austrian army fielded several hussar regiments, each distinguished by its facing colours and traditions. These cavalrymen played key roles in battles such as Austerlitz, Wagram, and Leipzig, often engaging in skirmishes ahead of the main force or exploiting breakthroughs on the flanks. This set captures the speed, style, and sharpness of Austrian hussars during the height of their battlefield effectiveness.
