This 28mm hard plastic figure set from Victrix represents the Carthaginian Citizen Infantry—recruited to bolster the ranks of the professional Carthaginian military during periods of expansion and prolonged conflict. Though unarmoured, these troops were issued helmets, shields, and spears, forming a disciplined and visually distinct force on the battlefield.

History:

The Carthaginian Citizen Infantry played a supporting role within the Carthaginian military structure, which primarily relied on mercenaries, allies, and professional soldiers. During times of extended campaigns—such as the Punic Wars against Rome—Carthage would conscript citizens to form additional infantry units. These men, though less experienced than the elite Libyan or Numidian forces, were still expected to hold the line with discipline and resolve. Armed with spears, round or oval shields, and simple helmets, they presented a unified defensive force. Their role was especially prominent in large set-piece battles, including those led by famed generals like Hannibal Barca, where massed infantry formations played a crucial tactical role.
