History:

Archers and slingers played crucial roles in the warfare of the Dark Ages and early medieval period, providing ranged support to infantry and cavalry units. Skilled archers employed rapid firing techniques, such as holding spare arrows in one hand while shooting with the other, to maintain continuous pressure on the enemy. Slingers, though less common, were valued for their ability to strike from a distance with devastating accuracy. These light troops formed the backbone of many armies, including Saxon, Norman, Viking, Breton, Frankish, and Germanic forces. Their mobility, versatility, and tactical use of terrain made them indispensable on the battlefields of early medieval Europe.
