History

This campaign not only highlighted the Avenger’s effectiveness but also cemented carrier-based aviation as the dominant force in naval warfare. Among the pilots was future US President George H. W. Bush, who flew an Avenger from USS San Jacinto. The TBF-1C variant featured improved armament and equipment, making it one of the most formidable naval aircraft of its time.
