The Academy 1/72 scale M60A1 RISE (P) kit reproduces the upgraded Cold War-era American medium tank used extensively by the US Marine Corps. The RISE (Reliability Improved Selected Equipment) package with Passive systems introduced explosive reactive armour (ERA) and Kevlar spall liners, giving the M60A1 improved survivability against modern threats. This detailed model features sharp moulding, a 105mm M68E1 main gun, M2 heavy machine gun, and accurate turret and hull detail. Marking options cover three USMC service vehicles, offering variety and authenticity for Cold War and Gulf War dioramas.

History

The M60 tank series was introduced in the early 1960s as America’s primary main battle tank, evolving through successive upgrades to meet changing battlefield threats. The M60A1 RISE (P) configuration, entering service in the late 1970s, incorporated significant survivability enhancements, including ERA tiles to resist shaped-charge munitions and Kevlar liners to protect crews from spalling. USMC units operated the M60A1 RISE (P) through the 1980s and into the Gulf War of 1991, where it provided reliable armoured firepower in harsh desert conditions. Despite being gradually replaced by the M1 Abrams, the M60A1 RISE (P) remained a dependable and effective vehicle, serving as a key transitional design in American armoured warfare.
