History:
Commissioned in 1961, USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) was the lead ship of her class and one of the last conventionally powered aircraft carriers built for the US Navy. She played a central role during the Cold War, operating extensively in the Pacific and participating in the Vietnam War, as well as later conflicts in the Middle East. Known for her long service life and numerous deployments, the Kitty Hawk embodied American naval power projection for nearly half a century before her decommissioning in 2009. Today, she remains a significant symbol of Cold War and modern US naval aviation history.
