History:

The V-156-B1 “Chesapeake” was the British designation for the export version of the Vought SB2U Vindicator, an American naval dive bomber of the late 1930s. Supplied to the Fleet Air Arm under Lend-Lease, the aircraft was intended for use as a carrier-based dive bomber, though it soon became clear that its performance was limited compared to contemporary Axis fighters and bombers. Despite this, the Chesapeake played a role in training and second-line duties, helping to prepare British naval aviators for combat operations. While it was quickly replaced by more capable types such as the Fairey Swordfish and Grumman Avenger, the Chesapeake remains a fascinating subject for modellers interested in early-war naval aviation history.
