AK Interactive Track Wash for Rust and Weathering Effects

AK Interactive Track Wash (35ml) AK083 is an enamel product developed to reproduce the natural tones of worn and rusted tank tracks. Its colour is particularly suited to tank tracks, but the wash can also be used to create rusted metal effects on other parts of a model. It provides a practical way to add an aged, weathered appearance while emphasising surface details and shadows.

A wash is one of the basic techniques used for weathering models. This classic method remains widely used because the liquid wash settles around details and within recessed areas, helping individual features stand out. Track Wash combines this familiar technique with a colour intended for tracks and other metal surfaces requiring a worn or rusted finish.

Applying the track wash

Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. Apply the wash with a large brush, allowing it to flow around raised details, panel recesses and the separate features of the track or metal surface. This helps pick out the model’s details and creates natural-looking shadows, adding greater visual depth to the weathered area.

The effect can be adjusted during application. If too much wash remains on the surface, remove the excess with a clean brush and White Spirit. This makes it possible to soften the result, retain the wash around selected details and clear it from areas where less weathering is required.
