The Army Painter Historical: WWII German Afrika Korps Combo contains ten acrylic colours selected for painting German forces serving in North Africa during the Second World War. The focused palette covers the sand, green, neutral and skin tones needed for Afrika Korps uniforms, webbing, equipment, vehicles and figures.

Developed in collaboration with WWII historian Dr Stephen Bull, the colour selection is grounded in historical research. Each shade uses The Army Painter’s high-performance Warpaints Fanatic formulation, providing a coordinated set for historically themed miniature painting.

The palette includes three DAK sand shades and three DAK green shades, creating ready-made dark, mid and light sequences for layering, highlighting and tonal variation. Additional colours provide options for fabric, straps, equipment and skin, helping painters maintain a consistent appearance across a complete Afrika Korps force.

Using the Colour Palette

Dark DAK Sand, Mid DAK Sand and Light DAK Sand form a coordinated sequence for desert-coloured uniforms, equipment and vehicle details. The three related shades can be used to establish shadows, base colours and highlights while keeping the finished subject visually consistent.

Dark DAK Green, Mid DAK Green and Light DAK Green provide a corresponding sequence of military green tones. These shades can be applied individually or layered to create definition across clothing, equipment and other green-painted surfaces.

Raw Wool and Bleached Strap Grey add neutral colours for fabric, straps and smaller details. Schilf Green broadens the available green selection, while Desert Skin provides a dedicated flesh tone for crew and infantry figures. Together, the ten colours form a concise palette for completing Afrika Korps miniature subjects.

History

The German Afrika Korps was deployed to North Africa in 1941 to support Italian forces fighting against the British and Commonwealth armies. Its troops operated across demanding desert environments where heat, dust, sunlight and supply conditions affected the appearance of uniforms, equipment and vehicles.

Sand-coloured uniforms and equipment became closely associated with Afrika Korps forces, although green, brown and neutral tones also remained visible across clothing, webbing and military hardware. This historically researched set brings those characteristic colours together for miniature painters recreating German forces from the North African campaign.
