History:
The North American P-51D Mustang was a key asset for the United States during World War II, offering exceptional range and performance. From bases such as Iwo Jima, Mustang units carried out escort and strike missions deep into Japanese-held territory. The fighters featured in this set were part of a strategic push to establish air superiority in the Pacific and disrupt enemy operations over the Japanese mainland. Pilots flying from Iwo Jima undertook some of the longest fighter missions of the war, showcasing the endurance and effectiveness of the P-51D in the closing months of the conflict.
