Gecko Models Plastic Model Kit
US M24 Light Tank Chaffee (1/16)
There’s a shift that happens when you build armour in 1/16 scale. It stops feeling like a quick assembly job and turns into something slower, more deliberate. This M24 Chaffee captures that nicely, sitting comfortably in the world of 1/16 plastic model kits where size and detail really start to matter. With a full fighting compartment interior, the model builds up piece by piece instead of just being a shell around empty space.
The kit balances detail with solid engineering. The turned metal barrel gives a clean, sharp finish straight out of the box, while the workable suspension and individual track links help the tank settle naturally once complete. Photo-etch parts and included stowage add that extra layer of realism, especially once you start weathering. As a large-scale release from Gecko Models, it feels like the kind of build where the process is just as satisfying as the finished model.

The M24 Chaffee entered service late in WWII, replacing the earlier M5 Stuart light tank. Designed with improved firepower and mobility, it featured a 75mm gun capable of supporting infantry and engaging lighter armoured vehicles. Although its time in the war was relatively short, it proved to be a reliable and effective design, continuing in service well into the post-war period with several nations. Its balanced proportions and clean lines make it a popular subject for modellers looking to capture late-war armour with a bit more presence.
