History: The M76 Otter was introduced in the 1950s as an amphibious cargo transport vehicle for the United States Marine Corps and Army. It played a significant logistical role during the Vietnam War, where its ability to navigate wet and swampy conditions made it especially valuable in the Mekong Delta and similar environments. The late production model featured improved design features based on field experience, and continued in use into the 1970s before being phased out in favour of more modern alternatives.
