The Hasegawa F-14B Tomcat VF-103 Jolly Rogers kit recreates one of the most iconic carrier-based fighter aircraft ever to serve with the United States Navy. Finished in the famous markings of VF-103 “Jolly Rogers”, this 1/72 scale model captures the aggressive appearance and combat capability of the legendary F-14 Tomcat during its later operational career.

The F-14B represented an important development of the Tomcat family, featuring upgraded engines that provided improved performance and reliability compared to earlier variants. Combined with its variable-sweep wing design, powerful radar and long-range missile capability, the aircraft became one of the most recognisable fighters of the late Cold War and post-Cold War period.

This special Hasegawa release includes highly detailed 3D-printed engine nozzles that accurately reproduce the appearance of the aircraft’s powerplants in the open position. The precision of the 3D-printed components adds an additional level of realism to the finished model and provides detail that would be difficult to achieve using conventional moulding techniques.

The kit includes markings for two VF-103 Jolly Rogers aircraft that operated from the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy. The famous skull-and-crossbones insignia, combined with the Tomcat’s distinctive lines, makes this model a standout addition to any modern naval aviation collection.

History

The Grumman F-14 Tomcat entered service with the United States Navy in the 1970s and quickly became one of the world’s most capable fleet defence fighters. Designed around the requirement to intercept long-range threats before they could reach carrier battle groups, the Tomcat combined advanced radar systems, powerful engines and variable-geometry wings to achieve exceptional performance.

VF-103 Jolly Rogers became one of the most famous Tomcat squadrons in naval aviation history. Carrying the distinctive skull-and-crossbones insignia, the squadron operated the F-14 during the aircraft’s later service years and participated in numerous deployments aboard USS John F. Kennedy. The combination of the Tomcat’s legendary status and the Jolly Rogers markings has made these aircraft enduring favourites among aviation enthusiasts and scale modellers.
