Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit
Mitsubishi F1M2 Type Zero Observation Seaplane [Pete] (1/48) 19196
This 1/48 scale plastic model kit from Hasegawa represents the Mitsubishi F1M2 Type Zero Observation Seaplane, known to Allied forces by the reporting name “Pete.” Developed to replace earlier carrier-based reconnaissance seaplanes, the F1M2 combined observation duties with limited offensive capability.
The kit contains 124 parts and captures the distinctive biplane layout and central float configuration that defined this versatile naval aircraft. Fine engraved surface detail and carefully moulded struts and floats allow for an accurate representation of the seaplane’s structure. When completed, the model measures approximately 198mm in length with a wingspan of 229mm.

History
The F1M2 entered service in the late 1930s as a replacement for earlier reconnaissance seaplanes used by the Imperial Japanese Navy. It was designed for catapult launch from cruisers and battleships, providing spotting and artillery observation support.
Although primarily intended for reconnaissance, the F1M2 proved adaptable and was often used in secondary roles, including light bombing and air defence in remote theatres. Its robust design and versatility ensured it remained in service throughout much of WWII.
