History

The IAI Kfir was developed by Israel as a multirole fighter based on the Mirage 5 airframe, adapted to use an American built engine and locally developed systems. The result was an aircraft optimised for the specific operational needs of the Israeli Air Force, balancing speed, agility and reliability.

The C2 variant introduced fixed forward canards, significantly improving manoeuvrability and low speed handling. Entering service in the late 1970s, the Kfir served as an important transitional fighter for Israel, bridging the gap between earlier Mirage based designs and later generations of advanced combat aircraft. Though produced in limited numbers, it became a distinctive and recognisable part of Cold War era air power.
