History
The P-51 Mustang was originally developed for the Royal Air Force, but it achieved its greatest success after being fitted with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. The P-51D variant introduced a bubble canopy for improved pilot visibility and became the most widely produced version.
Serving extensively in the European Theatre, the Mustang provided long-range escort to strategic bomber formations, significantly reducing losses to enemy fighters. Its combination of range, speed, and firepower ensured its place as one of the most effective and recognisable fighters of WWII.
