History
The Iveco LMV, known in Italian service as the Lince, was developed in the early 2000s to meet the need for a new generation of light armoured vehicles capable of operating in modern conflict environments. Designed by Iveco Defence Vehicles, it was intended to provide a balance between mobility, protection, and adaptability across a wide range of missions.
One of the key features of the Lince is its armoured crew compartment, designed as a separate protective capsule mounted on the chassis. This approach improves crew survivability, particularly in the event of explosions beneath the vehicle. Combined with its compact size and off-road capability, this design makes it well suited to reconnaissance, patrol, and troop transport roles.
The vehicle has been widely adopted and deployed in numerous operational theatres, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, and the Balkans. Its reliability and adaptability have contributed to its success, with several countries incorporating it into their armed forces. Different configurations and equipment setups have been used depending on mission requirements.
Today, the LMV Lince remains one of the most recognised light tactical vehicles in modern military service. Its continued use highlights its effectiveness in contemporary operations, as well as the importance of balancing protection and mobility in vehicle design.
