Historical Context
The Mercedes-Benz W 196 R was designed for the 1954 and 1955 Formula One seasons. The regulations permitted an engine capacity of 750 cc with supercharging or 2,500 cc without supercharging, allowed a free choice of fuel mixture and specified races of 300 kilometres or a minimum duration of three hours.
The silver W 196 R competed with Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss. Across the twelve races entered, the car achieved nine victories. This kit depicts the streamlined silver version carrying the #12 numbers used for Stirling Moss.
