About the John Blanche Masterclass Range
The John Blanche Masterclass series from The Army Painter began as a collection of curated paint sets and has grown into one of the most distinctive grimdark colour ranges available for miniature painters. Now available as individual paints, the full 40-colour palette is easier than ever to explore, top up, and build on without committing to a full box set.
Each colour has been developed with John Blanche, an artist whose decades of work across fantasy illustration and miniature art have shaped the aesthetic of grimdark as a genre. The palette reflects that influence directly: deep, warm shadows, muted earth tones, corrupted flesh, aged metals, and the kind of rich, unclean colours that bring character and atmosphere to any figure. These are not utility paints. They are a statement about how a miniature should feel.
Designed to Work with Warpaints Fanatic
The Masterclass range is built to complement The Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic line. The colours slot into the Flexible Triad System, adding darker bases and more atmospheric midtones that extend the existing range into grimmer, more expressive territory. Whether you paint warbands, display pieces, or large armies, the Masterclass singles give you the flexibility to pull specific colours into your workflow without purchasing duplicates you already own.
Buying Singles
Previously available only as part of the Masterclass box sets, the full 40-colour range is now stocked as singles at Scale Model Shop. This makes it straightforward to replace a colour you have used up, try a specific shade before committing to a set, or fill gaps in your collection. A further 10 colours are expected to be added to the range in a future release, bringing the complete palette to 50 shades.
