Matho Models 1/35 Metal Fence Set A – Gate

Add a highly detailed metal gate to your 1/35 modelling project with Metal Fence Set A – Gate from Matho Models. This photo-etch set contains one fret with a two-part metal gate measuring 5.8 cm wide and 6.5 cm high.

The left and right edges feature bolt detail and can be bent through 90 degrees to make attachment to a support column easier. For best results, use a large photo-etch bending tool when forming these edges.

Compatible with Metal Fence Set A

The gate is designed to be compatible with Matho Models 35015 Metal Fence Set A, which is sold separately. It is also the gate design included in Matho Models 35086 Metal Fence A – Big Set with Gate, which combines four fence parts with one two-part gate.

This set contains the photo-etch gate parts only. The base and wall section are not included.

Painting and Preparing the Gate

For painting and weathering, leave the gate attached to the fret initially. Airbrush several layers of acrylic primer, allowing at least 24 hours to dry between coats. Once primed, continue with your chosen acrylic or enamel colours and weathering products.

Seal the painted gate with several coats of varnish and allow the varnish to dry for at least 24 hours. This gives the finish time to harden before you remove the parts from the fret and handle them further. Work gently during the remaining stages to minimise scratching of the painted surface.

Place the fret on a hard surface such as wood or glass and cut the gate parts free using a fresh knife. Any remaining fret attachment residue can be cleaned with a micro file, although a clean cut can reduce the need for filing along straight edges.

After cutting, bending and handling, touch up any areas where the brass has become visible. Use your main colour with a round, very fine-tipped brush to restore the finish while retaining the detailed surface and bolt features of the two-part gate.
