Matho Models 1/35 Plastic Crates A

Add finely detailed plastic crates to your 1/35 modelling projects with this set from Matho Models. The set contains two unpainted crates, printed in high-detail UV-cured acrylic plastic and ready for preparation, priming and painting.

Each crate measures approximately 1.2 cm long, 0.8 cm wide and 0.5 cm high. Their compact size makes them useful accessories for adding small-scale crate details to 1/35 scenes, with two matching pieces included to arrange individually or together.

High-Detail 3D Printed Crates

The two crates are produced using a high-detail 3D printing process in UV-cured acrylic plastic. Supplied unpainted, you can finish them to suit your project requirements and incorporate them into your chosen detailing arrangement.

Handle the parts carefully during preparation, as 3D printed components can be brittle. First, rinse them in acetone to remove excess waxy support material remaining from the printing process.

Preparing the Parts for Painting

The 3D printing process builds each part in very fine layers. Some layer lines may remain slightly visible in certain areas, particularly under magnification. Where required, sand these areas with a medium abrasive such as 600 grit, followed by a finer abrasive such as 1000 grit. The acrylic plastic sands easily, so work carefully to preserve the printed detail. Rinse the parts in acetone again afterwards to remove sanding dust before priming and painting.

Some 3D printed parts can be hollow and open underneath. If you want to display the underside, fill it with putty and sand it before finishing.

For very small or difficult areas, cut a strip of sandpaper approximately 1-2 mm wide and fold it. Hold the folded strip with flat-tipped tweezers so only a tiny section of the fold projects beyond the tips. Carefully work this small abrasive surface over the required area. When the sandpaper becomes clogged, make a fresh fold in an unused section and continue. Once preparation is complete, the two crates are ready to be primed and painted.
