History
The Boeing C-17A Globemaster III was developed as a strategic and tactical military transport aircraft capable of carrying heavy cargo over long distances while still operating from short or semi-prepared runways. Entering service during the 1990s, the aircraft quickly became a key asset for military and humanitarian operations worldwide.
The C-17 can transport tanks, helicopters, troops, vehicles, and oversized cargo while maintaining the flexibility to operate in difficult environments. Its four powerful turbofan engines and advanced flight systems allow it to perform missions ranging from rapid troop deployment to disaster relief operations.
Although strongly associated with the United States Air Force, the aircraft has also been operated by allied air forces including the Royal Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force. These aircraft have played important roles in military deployments, evacuation missions, and humanitarian aid deliveries across the globe.
The Globemaster III remains one of the most capable military transport aircraft ever produced and continues to serve as a backbone of modern air mobility operations.
