History

The Surtees TS16 was developed for the 1974 Formula 1 World Championship by the Surtees team, founded by John Surtees. Uniquely, Surtees remains the only person to win world championships on both motorcycles and in Formula 1. Following his racing career, he established his own Formula 1 team and designed a series of competitive racing cars under the Surtees name.

The TS16 was driven during the 1974 season by notable drivers including Jochen Maas and Derek Bell. Competing during an era famous for powerful naturally aspirated engines, wide tyres and minimal electronic assistance, the car embodied the raw character of 1970s Formula 1 racing.
