History
The M1 Assault Breacher Vehicle was developed to fulfil a critical need for safe and rapid breaching of minefields in hostile environments. Entering service in the late 2000s, the ABV is based on the M1A1 Abrams tank chassis but replaces its turret with a specialised superstructure, line charge launcher and powerful plough blade. Designed for use by the US Marine Corps and US Army, it has seen action in Iraq and Afghanistan, where it enabled ground forces to clear explosive hazards quickly and safely. Its MICLIC system can launch explosive charges that detonate mines at a safe distance, and its armoured profile ensures survivability under fire. The ABV represents the pinnacle of modern battlefield engineering capability.
