History
The de Havilland DH.94 Moth Minor was introduced in the late 1930s as a modern light aircraft, originally featuring an open cockpit layout. It was intended as a successor to earlier biplane trainers, bringing more contemporary design features to light aviation.
For private owners seeking greater comfort, de Havilland developed the Coupe version, which featured a closed cabin for two occupants. This made the aircraft more suitable for travel and sport flying, particularly in less favourable weather conditions.
During the Second World War, many Moth Minors were requisitioned for military use, serving in liaison and training roles. Production later resumed for civilian markets, and the aircraft became popular in post-war aviation.
The Coupe variant remained in use for several decades, particularly in the UK and Commonwealth countries, contributing to the growth of private flying. Some examples have survived and continue to fly today, maintaining the legacy of this versatile light aircraft.
