Tamiya A6M2b Zero Zeke (1/72)

The Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero Zeke was the first major mass-produced version of Japan’s iconic WWII carrier-based fighter. Equipped with 50cm folding wingtips, an arrestor hook, and a radio direction finder, the A6M2b was specifically adapted for naval operations from aircraft carriers. Its combination of exceptional manoeuvrability, impressive 3,000km range, and formidable armament made it a dominant presence in the early years of the Pacific War.

Armed with two 7.7mm machine guns in the forward fuselage and two 20mm cannons in the wings, the A6M2b could take on both air and lightly armoured ground targets effectively. Piloted by highly skilled aviators, it took part in historic missions such as the attack on Pearl Harbor and the invasion of the Philippines, establishing a fearsome reputation among Allied forces.

  • Highly detailed 1/72 scale model of the Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero Zeke
  • Accurate reproduction of folding wingtips, landing hook, and cockpit layout
  • Detailed landing gear, engine cowling, and canopy design
  • Markings included for multiple historically significant aircraft
  • Perfect for Pacific Theatre dioramas and WWII aircraft collections

History

First flown in 1939, the A6M Zero quickly became synonymous with Japanese air power in WWII. The A6M2b entered service in 1940, ushering in a new era of naval aviation supremacy for Japan. Its unmatched range and agility allowed Japanese carrier forces to strike deep into enemy territory with devastating effect. However, by 1943 the Zero’s lightweight construction and lack of armour became vulnerabilities against newer Allied fighters. Despite this, the A6M2b’s early-war dominance and legendary dogfighting capabilities ensured its place as one of the most famous aircraft in aviation history.
