Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
Tamiya Bf109E-4/7 TROP (1/72)
The Tamiya 1/72 Bf109E-4/7 TROP model kit presents a highly accurate replica of the early Messerschmitt variant used by the Luftwaffe in North Africa during World War II. With finely moulded parts and authentic proportions, this kit captures the tropicalised version of the famed E-4, fitted with a sand filter and extended-range drop tank to cope with the harsh desert environment.
The kit includes detailed cockpit parts, optional canopies, and external stores such as the underbelly fuel tank. Clean panel lines and precise fittings make this a rewarding build, whether you are constructing a standalone piece or incorporating it into a diorama of the desert theatre. The markings provided reflect actual operational aircraft used in early 1941 through mid-1942, during campaigns in Libya and beyond.
- 1/72 scale plastic assembly kit
- Recreates the Bf109E-4/7 with tropical air filter and fuel tank
- Includes detailed cockpit and undercarriage
- Markings for aircraft deployed in North Africa
- Ideal for WWII aviation modellers
History
The Bf109E, or “Emil”, was Germany’s primary front-line fighter in the early stages of WWII. The E-4 variant featured a 1,100hp Daimler-Benz engine and two wing-mounted 20mm cannons. It gained fame in the Battle of Britain, where its agility rivalled the RAF’s Spitfire, though its limited range proved a significant drawback during extended operations over the UK.
To address this, the Luftwaffe introduced the E-7, which incorporated an under-fuselage drop tank, extending operational range. The E-4/7 TROP was a tropicalised modification of this type, adapted for the desert warfare of North Africa. With sand filters and revised engine tuning, it served during Rommel’s early campaigns. Although later superseded by the F and G series, the E-4/7 continued in front-line service until mid-1942, often flown by veteran pilots in ground attack and patrol missions.
