This 1/48 scale Tamiya kit recreates the British M10 IIC Achilles tank destroyer, a formidable conversion of the U.S. M10 provided under the Lend-Lease program. Based on the M4 Sherman chassis, the M10 featured lighter, more steeply sloped armour for speed, but the British replaced its original 3-inch gun with their powerful 17-pounder anti-tank gun, dramatically improving its ability to take on heavily armoured German tanks.
The upgraded Achilles received additional armour on the front and sides, as well as a turret-top shield for crew protection. While retaining the M10’s mobility, it became a potent long-range tank killer, seeing extensive service in Europe from the Normandy landings onwards. Its combination of firepower, speed, and rugged reliability made it a valued asset in British and Commonwealth armoured units.
