Tamiya Plastic Model Kit

Tamiya Focke-Wulf Fw190 D-9 (1/72)

The Tamiya 1/72 scale Focke-Wulf Fw190 D-9 kit delivers exceptional accuracy and sharp detailing, ideal for modellers interested in late-war Luftwaffe aircraft. Compact yet rich in detail, this model captures the sleek form of the long-nosed D-9 variant, an advanced evolution of the original radial-engine Fw190A series.

The kit includes subtle surface panel lines, finely detailed landing gear, and a well-rendered cockpit. Optional canopy parts allow builders to depict early flat-top or late-production Galland hoods. The parts fit is precise, and included markings allow for historically accurate Luftwaffe schemes.

  • 1/72 scale injection-moulded plastic kit
  • Highly detailed exterior and cockpit
  • Includes both canopy styles: flat and Galland hood
  • Optional display with undercarriage up or down
  • Decals for authentic Luftwaffe markings

History

The Focke-Wulf Fw190 D-9, introduced in 1944, was developed to address the Luftwaffe’s need for a high-altitude interceptor. It featured a liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213 engine, replacing the earlier BMW radial engines, resulting in a longer nose and more streamlined profile. The new engine significantly improved the aircraft’s high-altitude performance, making it a strong match against Allied fighters such as the P-51 Mustang and Spitfire Mk.XIV.

First deployed with III./JG 54 in September 1944, the Fw190 D-9 saw service as both an air superiority fighter and a cover aircraft for the emerging Messerschmitt Me262 jet. It was known for its speed, climb rate, and improved pilot visibility with the later Galland canopy. Though it arrived late in the war, the D-9 proved to be one of the finest piston-engine fighters in the German arsenal.
