This 1/48 scale Tamiya model kit recreates the Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien, a unique Japanese WWII fighter distinguished by its liquid-cooled Ha-40 engine, a license-built version of the German Daimler-Benz DB 601. Its sleek nose profile led to early misidentification as a European aircraft, earning it the Allied codename “Tony.” Entering combat in early 1943, the Hien proved an agile and competitive adversary, capable of reaching speeds up to 580 km/h. It served extensively in the defence of the Solomon Islands and later as an interceptor during the B-29 raids over Japan.
