This 1/48 scale Tamiya kit represents the legendary Avro Lancaster heavy bomber, one of the RAF’s most iconic aircraft of WWII. It includes parts to depict both the Mk.III “Dambuster,” modified to carry Barnes Wallis’ bouncing bomb for precision dam raids, and the Mk.I “Grand Slam Bomber,” adapted to deliver the massive 10-ton Grand Slam earthquake bomb. The Dambuster variant famously took part in Operation Chastise, using bombs designed to skip over water to strike dam walls. The Grand Slam variant targeted fortified sites such as U-boat pens and V-weapon facilities, with modifications including the removal of dorsal guns and bomb bay doors to accommodate the weapon’s size and reduce weight.
