History:

Developed for the USAAF, the P-51D Mustang combined excellent range, speed, and agility. Fitted with a bubble canopy and six .50 calibre machine guns, it became the definitive variant of the Mustang series. Used extensively from mid-1944, the P-51D escorted B-17 and B-24 bombers on raids over Germany and played a vital role in gaining control of the skies. Its performance earned it recognition as one of the most successful fighter aircraft of the war.
