Tamiya Plastic Model Kit

North American P-51B Mustang (1/48) 61042

The North American P-51B Mustang marked a turning point in Allied air superiority during World War II. Developed from the earlier Allison-powered P-51A Apache, the B variant was the result of combining the proven Mustang airframe with the powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, produced under licence in the U.S. by Packard as the V-1650-3.

  • 1/48 scale high-precision plastic model kit
  • Realistic cockpit and internal detail
  • Distinctive airframe design with enlarged radiator scoop
  • Option to add underwing drop tanks for long-range missions
  • Markings for WWII bomber escort units

First flown on 30 November 1942, the P-51B was equipped with an uprated supercharger, which boosted its top speed by 50mph and increased its operational ceiling by 10,000 feet. The addition of an 85-gallon fuselage fuel tank extended its range significantly, enabling it to escort heavy bombers deep into enemy territory and back. Entering service in September 1943, the P-51B earned a fearsome reputation, ending the war as one of the most successful fighter types with the highest number of air-to-air victories in the European theatre. A total of 3,788 were built, cementing its place in aviation history.
