Tamiya Plastic Model Kit

Tyrrell P34 Six Wheeler (1/20) 20058

This 1/20 scale model from Tamiya recreates one of the most radical designs in Formula One history—the Tyrrell P34 six-wheeler. First revealed in 1975, the P34 sought improved cornering and braking by using four small front wheels to reduce drag while maintaining grip. It became a symbol of innovation and remains the only six-wheeled car ever to compete in F1.

This edition replicates the version seen in the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix, featuring accurate blue and yellow markings and Japanese team and driver names used specifically for that race. Tamiya’s updated tooling includes newly designed photo-etched parts, sticker-based seatbelt decals and finely detailed features throughout.

  • 1/20 scale plastic model of the Tyrrell P34 six-wheeled Formula One car
  • Authentic body shape with four front and two rear wheels
  • Updated photo-etched rear wing stays, brake discs and seatbelt details
  • Highly detailed DFV engine with ignition wiring
  • Cartograf decals for both No.3 and No.4 cars with Japanese GP-specific markings
  • Model dimensions: Length 201mm, Width 100mm, Height 51mm

This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.

History

The Tyrrell P34 made its racing debut in 1976, quickly drawing attention for its bold six-wheel configuration. Designed to reduce aerodynamic drag while increasing grip, the P34 used four small front wheels tucked behind the front wing and paired with standard rear tyres. Despite initial scepticism, the car proved competitive, achieving a memorable 1–2 finish at the Swedish Grand Prix.

At the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix, the P34 appeared with unique livery details including Japanese text for local branding. Though the six-wheeled concept was eventually dropped, the P34 left a lasting legacy as one of the most daring innovations in Formula One history. Tamiya’s model captures this engineering marvel with technical accuracy and racing flair.
