Historical Background:

The Ward LaFrance M1000 Heavy Wrecker Series 3 served as a critical asset for US Army support units from 1944 through the early Cold War. With robust construction, strong recovery equipment, and good road performance, it became an indispensable tool for battlefield logistics. The Series 3 saw updates to cab ergonomics, crew access points, and improvements in hoisting gear for increased operational efficiency. These wreckers were used in Europe, the Pacific, and later Korea, where they continued their service hauling vehicles out of mud, shell craters, and river crossings.
