History
HMS Cornwall was one of the first Kent-class heavy cruisers built under the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty. She entered service in 1928 and served extensively during the interwar years and early stages of the Second World War. Cornwall operated throughout the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, playing a key role in convoy protection and maritime patrols.
During the Japanese Indian Ocean raid in April 1942, HMS Cornwall was stationed south of Ceylon alongside HMS Dorsetshire. Both ships were attacked and sunk by carrier-based dive bombers from the Imperial Japanese Navy. The loss of Cornwall and her crew was a sobering reminder of the growing threat of air power to naval forces. Trumpeter’s model commemorates this historic vessel with authentic detailing and scale accuracy.
