12mm M4A1 Shermans VG12018
This Victrix set includes six highly detailed 12mm (1:144 scale) M4A1 Sherman tanks—featuring both early and late war variants—along with a decal sheet. Representing two key iterations of one of the most iconic tanks of World War II, this set is ideal for building forces for North Africa, Italy, and Northwest Europe.
The early M4A1 featured a cast hull and was armed with a 75mm main gun. Over 6,000 were produced between 1942 and December 1943. These tanks saw extensive service with British forces at the Second Battle of El Alamein and with American units during Operation Torch and the Italian campaign. Their balance of firepower, protection, and mobility made them a key asset in the Allies’ early armoured advances.
The late-war M4A1 variant, introduced from 1943 onwards, was upgraded with a more powerful 76mm gun and often fitted with additional armour plates over vulnerable areas such as the driver and co-driver positions. Over 3,000 of this variant were built by war’s end and they played a vital role in the fighting across France, the Low Countries, and into Germany.
- 6 x 12mm M4A1 Shermans (Early and Late Versions)
- Decal sheet included
Note: This set requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.
History:
The M4A1 Sherman was among the most widely produced and deployed Allied tanks of the Second World War. Known for its cast upper hull and rounded contours, the early model provided reliable armoured support during key battles from North Africa to Italy. As the war progressed and the threat from heavier German tanks increased, the Sherman was continually upgraded. The late-war M4A1 variant with a 76mm gun significantly improved the tank’s ability to engage enemy armour at longer ranges. Widely used by both American and British forces, Shermans were praised for their mechanical reliability, ease of maintenance, and adaptability. The M4A1 exemplifies the Allied doctrine of quantity, flexibility, and combined arms warfare.
