History:
The Dornier Do 335 Pfeil (Arrow) was one of the most unusual and advanced piston-engine aircraft developed by Nazi Germany during World War II. Featuring a unique push-pull twin-engine layout—with one engine in the nose and one in the rear fuselage—the Do 335 was capable of exceptional speed and climb performance, reaching up to 474 mph (763 km/h).
The A-0 series represented pre-production aircraft delivered in late 1944 for operational evaluation. Although the Pfeil was fast and surprisingly stable, Allied bombing raids and production delays limited the number produced, and it never saw full-scale combat deployment.
Its advanced aerodynamics, powerful Daimler-Benz engines, and sleek design made it an object of fascination for Allied engineers after the war. Several examples were captured and tested, and the sole surviving Do 335 A-0 is now on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
Zoukei-Mura’s 1/32 scale kit pays tribute to this extraordinary aircraft with exceptional internal detail, faithfully recreating both engines, cockpit systems, and structural components. It’s a rewarding project for experienced modellers and a striking centrepiece for any Luftwaffe aircraft collection.
