Developed from a lineage that included the successful Daimler Dingo scout car, the Ferret entered widespread British and Commonwealth military service from the 1950s onwards. It was designed as a fast, discreet vehicle capable of probing enemy positions and reporting valuable information to commanders. Later Ferret variants also took part in the Gulf War of 1990.

A Distinctive British Armoured Car

The operational Ferret weighed around four tons and featured all-welded construction, four-wheel drive and armour designed to protect against most small-arms fire. Its reliable six-cylinder Rolls-Royce engine delivered a top speed of approximately 45mph, both forwards and in reverse, giving crews valuable agility in demanding situations.
