History: The Panzerkampfwagen II was developed in 1934 to fill the gap while the Panzer III and IV were still in production. Initially armed with a 20mm KwK 30 main gun and a 7.92mm machine gun, it evolved through multiple variants with improved armour, suspension, and weaponry. By the outbreak of WWII, nearly half of Germany’s 2,580 operational tanks were Panzer IIs, spearheading the Blitzkrieg in Poland and later in France. Though soon outclassed, its speed and reliability made it invaluable for reconnaissance and support roles through the early war years.
