Das Werk 1/35 Scale Amphibious Vehicle Kit

Das Werk Schwimmwagen Trippel SG 6/38 (1/35) Item DW35012

Das Werks Schwimmwagen Trippel SG 6/38 is a finely engineered model of the WWII VW-based amphibious reconnaissance vehicle. This kit captures the compact, all-terrain design of the amphibian, combining precise wheel and track components, a functional snorkel intake, and modular amphibious underbody detail. Ideal for front-line or river-crossing dioramas featuring German reconnaissance units.

  • 1/35 scale injection-moulded plastic kit (Das Werk DW35012)
  • Detailed Schwimmwagen body with road-wheel suspension and rudder mechanism
  • Functional rear-mounted propeller, snorkel tube, and front air intake
  • Selectable build: open or closed canvas top with framing options
  • Accurate engine deck louvres, fuel tank, and exhaust system
  • Photo-etched parts for grille screens, tool brackets, and canopy supports
  • Clear parts for headlights, vision panels, and instrument dials

Note: Requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints, and tools are not included.

Historical Background:

The Trippel SG 6/38 Schwimmwagen was a successor to the amphibious Type 166 Schwimmwagen by Volkswagen. Developed in 1938 by engineer Adolph Osten and improved by Dipl.-Ing. Hanns Trippel, it featured better water propulsion and low silhouette for reconnaissance duties. Though less numerous than the later Type 166, the SG 6/38 saw frontline service early in WWII and influenced subsequent amphibious military vehicle designs.
