Sd.Kfz.166 Stu.Pz.IV Brummbar Early Production
The Dragon Sd.Kfz.166 Stu.Pz.IV Brummbar Early Production in 1/35 scale recreates one of the most distinctive German assault guns of the Second World War. Based on the Panzer IV chassis and armed with a massive 15cm StuH 43 howitzer, the Brummbar was developed to provide heavy infantry support during assaults on fortified positions and urban environments.
Part of the 1/35 military vehicle model kits range, this early production version captures the angular superstructure and heavy armoured appearance seen on vehicles deployed during the Battle of Kursk and early Eastern Front operations.
- 1/35 scale plastic model kit
- Early production Sd.Kfz.166 Brummbar configuration
- Based on the Panzer IV chassis
- 15cm StuH 43 assault howitzer included
- Detailed suspension and running gear
- Highly detailed armoured fighting compartment
- Early production hull and superstructure features
- Suitable for WWII Eastern Front diorama projects
The model accurately reproduces the distinctive slab-sided armoured superstructure and short-barrelled heavy assault gun that made the Brummbar instantly recognisable on the battlefield. Surface detailing and structural components reflect the heavy-duty construction of the original vehicle.
The early production configuration includes the initial superstructure layout and design characteristics associated with the first combat-deployed vehicles during 1943.
History
The Sturmpanzer IV, officially designated Sd.Kfz.166, was developed by Germany during the Second World War as a heavily armoured assault gun intended for close infantry support. Allied forces later nicknamed the vehicle “Brummbar”, although this term was not officially used by German crews.
Built on the reliable Panzer IV chassis, the Brummbar mounted the powerful 15cm StuH 43 howitzer capable of firing high-explosive shells against bunkers, defensive positions, and urban strongpoints. Its thick armour allowed it to operate close to front-line fighting where conventional artillery could not easily provide support.
Early production vehicles first saw combat during the Battle of Kursk in 1943. While highly effective in firepower, the heavy superstructure placed considerable strain on the chassis and suspension, leading to modifications in later production variants.
The Brummbar served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts throughout the war and became one of Germany’s most specialised and formidable infantry support vehicles.
