Eduard Plastic Model Kit
FM-2 Wildcat Limited Edition (1/48) 11175
Eduard’s Limited Edition kit 11175 presents the General Motors FM-2 Wildcat in 1/48 scale, a carrier-based fighter used by the United States Navy during World War II. This variant of the iconic Wildcat was produced by the Eastern Aircraft Division of General Motors and featured a taller vertical fin, distinguishing it from earlier Grumman-built versions. The FM-2 served extensively in the Pacific Theatre, valued for its ruggedness, manoeuvrability, and ability to operate from smaller escort carriers.
This kit includes Eduard’s trademark high-quality plastic parts along with photo-etched (PE) details, a set of pre-cut painting masks, and comprehensive decal options. With refined panel lines and a well-detailed cockpit, the model offers an excellent build experience for modellers seeking historical accuracy and crisp detail. The limited edition release enhances the overall presentation with unique markings and optional configurations.

History:
The FM-2 Wildcat was developed by General Motors to support the growing demand for carrier-based aircraft during the later stages of World War II. As a lighter and slightly more powerful version of the original Grumman Wildcat, the FM-2 was equipped with a more powerful Wright R-1820 engine and featured a taller fin to improve stability. While more advanced aircraft like the Hellcat and Corsair entered service, the FM-2 found its niche operating from smaller escort carriers, providing essential air cover during amphibious landings and convoy protection. Its rugged design and reliable performance earned the FM-2 a respected place in naval aviation history.
