History:
The North American P-51B Mustang introduced the Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, transforming the Mustang into one of the most effective long-range escort fighters of WWII. The “Blue Nose Bastards of Bodney,” the nickname of the 352nd Fighter Group, flew P-51Bs with distinctive blue-painted noses from their base in England. These aircraft escorted Allied bombers deep into German territory, taking on the Luftwaffe in fierce aerial battles. The combination of speed, range, and firepower made the P-51B a game-changer, allowing daylight bombing raids to continue with greater success. Academy’s 1/48 kit faithfully represents this legendary fighter in its iconic livery, offering modellers a tribute to the men and machines that shaped the outcome of the air war over Europe.
