Si caratterizzava per l’adozione di due motori, come molti altri velivoli di caratteristiche simili dell’epoca, ma anche per l’introduzione di soluzioni innovative come la struttura interamente in metallo. Grazie ai suoi due motori Jumo 211 era In grado di raggiungere la velocitàmassima di 440 Km/h e poteva trasportare, nella stiva interna, oltre 2.000 Kg di bombe. Facilmente identificabile per il grande muso vetrato e per il profilo alare e dei timoni di coda, venne largamente impiegato dalla Luftwaffe durante la battaglia di Inghilterra nel 1940. L’Heinkel He-111 fu regolarmente migliorato e modificato ma divenne presto superato durante il corso della guerra.
