History:
French hussars were among the most flamboyant and daring cavalry of the Napoleonic era. Originally inspired by Hungarian light cavalry, these regiments became famous for their dramatic uniforms featuring braided dolmans, pelisses worn over one shoulder, and fur-trimmed shakos or mirlitons. Active from 1792 through to 1815, French hussars served in nearly every major campaignfrom the Italian and Egyptian expeditions to Austerlitz, Leipzig, and Waterloo. Their primary roles included scouting, raiding, screening troop movements, and pursuing broken enemies. Renowned for their speed and dash, they brought both elegance and effectiveness to the battlefield. This set captures their vibrant appearance and agile combat role across two decades of warfare.
