History:

Between 1450 and 1500, the use of mercenary soldiers became increasingly common across Europe as kingdoms and city-states sought to bolster their armies with experienced professionals. These troopsoften drawn from regions such as Switzerland, Germany, and northern Italybrought with them evolving battlefield technology, including pikes, early firearms, and improved crossbows. Mercenary companies played significant roles in the Burgundian Wars, the Wars of the Roses, and the Italian Wars, influencing tactics and introducing new forms of discipline and coordination. They were frequently equipped in a mix of regional and practical dress, combining partial armour with everyday garments. This set captures the gritty and versatile appearance of late medieval mercenaries as they fought for coin, cause, or contract across a rapidly changing Europe.
